John is an experienced educator, researcher, university leader, institution builder and team player, with deep experience in Business School accreditation and international engagement, and an abiding commitment to the importance of the social sciences in business and management education and professional practice. His principal areas of research and teaching include performance management, reward management, executive remuneration, corporate governance, and leadership. In the HRM field, his book publications include Managing Employee Performance and Reward, Cambridge University Press, 3e, 2020, and Human Resource Management: Strategy and Practice, 11e edition, 2022 (co-authored with Alan Nankervis, Marian Baird and Jane Coffey).
